WE HAVE FORGOTTEN

29th November 2008
NSG & Army kill all terrorist inside the Nariman House, Oberoi ,Trident and Taj Hotel. We see a wave of humans out there to shake their hands, hug them, say thank you, girls wanting to give flowers to the NSG commandos. Period

Over to 2nd May 2009
In the sleepy town of Coimbatore, pro-LTTE, Pro-Srilankan Tamils attacked a convoy of Indian Army trucks, returning from a military exercise. They pelted heavy stones on the wind screens of the trucks, arson ed & burned the equipment, threw rocket propelled grenades on the streets. They also foul mouthed the Army soldiers. Period

What has changed in these 5 months. Nothing, at all. The common man’s memory is weak & will continue to be the same. We do it to our politicians, our sportsmen, our cricketers & now also our Soldiers. Nothing new at all. We are a thankless country. We forget very easily. Or are we mislead by our leaders, their goons or chamcha’s ( ass licking community, a global phenomenon).

Why was the Police cover not given to an Army convoy when it is generally passing through towns ( it is meant to ease the movement of the convoy)????
Why did the police not arrive at the scene within minutes, when informed about the attack???
Why do we forget about our Armed Forces in times of peace & prosperity???????

The only thing I can answer is that why didn’t the army personnel fire to disperse the crowd.???
The answer is that the army is not trained to gun down its own people. With the convoy coming back from a training exercise, there would have been no dearth of arms & am munitions to wage a long war against these vandals. The jawans & their officers showed maturity & restraint.

We should be ashamed of our actions. All the soldier wants is encouragement. And this is what we give him in return of saving our lives, by guarding our frontiers. In one of my earlier posts I have complained about our ‘WE SHALL FORGET ‘ syndrome. We are surely forgetting. Forgetting the sacrifice of our armed forces since 1947. They have fought the enemy in 1948, 1962,1965, 1971 & 1999, to save the sovereignty & independence of our motherland. Yet each & every time we have betrayed them,

I would also like to apologise to our soldiers who faced this appalling & demoralizing incident. I am sorry Mr. Soldier. Sorry that our countrymen behaved in this manner.

But I would also like to add that people who matter should not treat this as an emotional issue, a political situation. It is a Law & Order situation. A crime for which someone has to pay, even if it means hurting the sentiments of Tamils, in India or elsewhere.

TIME TO CHANGE

Saw the film ‘Leader’ yesterday on TV. This film was first screened in 1964 & was directed by Ram Mukherjee aka…Rani Mukherjee’s father & written by Dilip Kumar. Was a nice movie with a plot that was very common in those times(maybe it will again come in fashion with our industry walas).A honest, straight talking & over enthusiastic hero fighting the landlords, the corrupt businessmen, greedy ‘Lalas ( Marwari Businessmen).
What stands out is the year of release of this mega-blockbuster in the year 1964. It is said that cinema is a reflection of the society. If that’s true, I fail to understand that how the generation before us says proudly that people were not corrupt in their times. 1964 was surely their era. If we can have politicians & businessmen like that in the cinema of 1964, I am sure that the politicians were corrupt even then.
Now I am thinking out loud…if the leaders were the same back then & are the same now ( basing my statement on the fact that cinema is a reflection of the society of that day), who is at fault..I am sure it is not just them, but us the commoners too. This system or ‘resignation to fate’ needs to change. This is not just going to change in a day or just by voting on Election Day, we need each & every Indian to behave in a manner that sets an example amongst others. Let us for once out do, one another in being righteous, fair, honest, dedicated, passionate & compassionate and not just try to outdo each other in our wealth, our respect/fear/clout in the society or any other ego enhancing quality.

The time to change has come. If we don’t hop on to the bus right now , I am not sure when the next bus will come.
